Arizona-Sonora Documents Online provides web access to digital images of archival collections relating to Sonora, Mexico that are located at three Arizona repositories: the University of Arizona Library Special Collections; the Arizona Historical Society-Tucson; and the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records. The collections date from the 19th and early 20th centuries. They cover a broad range of topics, including ranching, mining, land grants, anti-Chinese movements, crime on the border, and governmental issues. The project was funded by a grant to the University of Arizona Library from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The project uses CONTENTdm software to display the images and make the collections searchable. Descriptive information about each image can be viewed under "Page description". The search engine searches the content of these descriptions. Full text searching of the documents is not available. The one exception will be the "Documents Pertaining to Apaches in Sonora, Mexico, 1832-1946" collection from the University of Arizona Library Special Collections, which will include Spanish transcriptions and English translations of the documents that can be searched.
