Marketing consultants under investigation

An employee of a local marketing firm
is under investigation for allegedly ab-sconding
with money generated by
fundraisers for a new television network.
The Tucson Police Department is
waiting for subpoenaed financial state-ments
to determine the amount Giovanni
de Carlo, a marketing consultant, is sus-pected
of swindling from M.T. Market-ing,
according to Detective Gerald T.
Garrison of the Tucson Fraud Division.

Union that holds the M.T. Marketing ac-count
because of the number of "bad"
checks written on their account.

she does not know how much money is

Although it has been a year since Ari-zona
voters approved Proposition 106,
She amendment which declared English
the official language of the state, remains
a controversial issue.
Some of the repercussions of the En-glish
Only movement include a lawsuit
filed in Superior Court by Tucsonan
Marciano Robles against Goy. Rose
Mofford, Pima County Attorney Stephen
D. Needy and Superior Court Clerk
James N. Corbett.
Robles, 37, filed the lawsuit in Febru-ary
after Tucson police confiscated his
luncheon cart. Robles sold Mexican food
from his cart, usually .in the South Tuc-son
area of 32nd Street and Sixth Av-enue.
When Robles filed his petition to re-nieve
his cart, he did so in Spanish, Hec-tor
Estrada, attorney for Robles, said.
This amendment to the state Constitution
prohibits legal documents from being
filed in Spanish.
Estrada said Robles couldn't get his
cart back because he didn't file hin re-quest
in English, Estrada said.

The Medical Television Network, Ca-ble
Channel 51, hired the marketing firm
this fall to promote the network within
the Latino community.
The network, which went on the air
Sept. 15, provides medical information to
the Tucson community, with a major
portion of its budget coming from a
$10,000 grant from Cooke Cable Televi-sion
and Tucson Community Cable.
It had planned to feature special bilin-gual
segments which would have iscen

provide medical programming for the
Latino community, but its now recruiting
volunteers to organize fundraisers.
Before its downfall, M.T. Marketing
had scheduled several fundraisers for the
Latino segments, including three car raf-fles
which netted $4,000 to $5,000.
MT. Marketing had also planned a fi-esta
- anticipated to be its most lucra-tive
event - at the Pima County Fair-grounds
on Oct. 28, Espinoza said.
