council member Tadeo said, "I

Trejo, a former mayor and
council member, said, "You
know, if I don't win, I'm out of
politics in South Tucson or
anywhere else. I'll probably be
working for somebody else, but
I'm out of politics."
TrejO received 155 votes.

Eckatrom, Tadeo and Veloz
will now go on to the May 17
generai city council election,
where they will probably run
unopposed since the large
majority of South Tucson's
registered voters - estimates
range from 85 to 97 per cent -
are Democrats.
No Republicans will appear
on the May ballot since none
me the primary filing deadline.
As ofyosterday, no one wishing
to run as an Independent had
filed nominating petitions.

In order for their votes to be
counted.
After the May general
election, the seven-member city
councliwill vote and choose one
of the council members u
mayor.
This year's election will
complete a shift from a two-year
tos four-year term for council
members.
The May election will fill
three council seats, but a fourth
may be vacant by then.
Reynaldo Santa Cruz was
elected to a four-year term in
1975, but he says he may move
out ofSouth Tucson. If he does,
the council will appoint a
replacement for him.
Assistant City Manager
Richard E. Kaffenberger said
last night that no officiai word
had been received about Santa.
